Mermaid Halloween Makeup Tutorial

Mermaid Halloween Makeup Tutorial

Our youngest wanted to be a mermaid for Halloween.  And we like to go all out with the make-up during this fun holiday!  We also like to be frugal and use what we have at home.  This is an easy way to do mermaid fish scales using makeup and supplies you probably already have at home.

  1.  Go to your kitchen and grab the netted bag that holds your apples, oranges, lemons, avocado, etc.  Or grab a bag of fresh fruit the next time you are at the store and save the netted bag.  Cut a hole so it can be placed over the face.  You can also do this same technique on other parts of the body.  I did a mermaid version of this and put scales across my arms and shoulders.  Set the net aside for the 3rd step.
  2. Use a cream style eye shadow in a dark color.  I have two that are in stick form and blended them.  You could also make some by mixing a little face cream or foundation with a dark eye shadow.  Cover the area you are wanting for the scales.  It is actually helpful for the next step if the type you are using is still a little sticky.
  3. If you are doing your own face, this is a lot easier with another person to help you.  Using the netted bag, carefully place it over the dark makeup area.  Pull it tight so there are no gaps, but not so tight that you are leaving marks!  Hold it firmly during the next step or your scales will not have crisp lines.
  4. Using a very light and very shimmery powder eye shadow or powder highlighter, brush/dust it over the entire area. Gently brush off any excess.
  5. Carefully remove the net and discard.
  6. Using additional shadow or highlighter, blend along the edges.  Add any additional final touches and you are all set!  (She inherited those long lashes from her dad!)
